If more than one time step is printed to the esri ascii file, it does not follow the format correctly. A carriage return is missing after the data field is printed. The output is correct if only one time step is printed to the file. For example,

GfsOutputGRD { step = 0.20 } tracer-%3.1f.asc {
     min = 0 max = 1 v = T
  }

will produce one file for each output time, but:

GfsOutputGRD { step = 0.20 } tracer.asc {
     min = 0 max = 1 v = T
  }

will place all of the output in one file, which is not correctly formatted. It has to be manually edited (big file) or the reading program (I used Matlab) must be made aware of the issue.
